The Cottage is a one bedroom self-catering holiday cottage set in the beautiful & peaceful village of Earl Sterndale about 5 miles south of the spa town of Buxton.
It was built from local limestone in the 16th Century and once served as the village bakery for Earl Sterndale. It has been converted into a lovely holiday cottage allowing guests to be in a very rural location while still being close to Buxton and all its amenities. The interior is small but beautifully designed, with a simple rural elegance. The ground floor has a warm fire and a comfy Chesterfield, and the open plan kitchen area has a stone flagged floor and solid wooded cabinets. There is wifi, a flat panel smart TV with Freeview, and a Bluetooth / FM radio. All these features make this self-catering holiday cottage a home away from home.
An iron spiral staircase leads upstairs to the bedroom, which has vaulted ceilings and exposed beams above the bed. The charming bathroom has a bath tub and a shower, with shiny stainless steel fittings.
A small summerhouse in the back yard houses a barbecue, a washing machine, and dry space for bikes.
The Cottage is the perfect country holiday retreat, with a traditional pub a few steps away, and excellent dining available in neighbouring villages. A short drive away, the historic spa town of Buxton provides both culture in the form of the Opera House, and practicality in the form of the Waitrose supermarket, which is open until 8pm.
There are wonderful hikes right from the doorstep to the dramatic peaks of nearby High Wheeldon and Parkhouse Hill, or on to Chrome Hill and the Roaches beyond. The quiet local roads and the Tissington and High Peak Trails provide more gentle routes for cyclists or walkers in inclement weather.
Within easy reach of Buxton, Bakewell, Ashbourne, Chelmorton, Longnor, Leek, Crowdecote, Hartington and many walking, hiking and cycling routes. You have the whole of the Peak District on your doorstep.
Cyclists can enjoy the challenge on cycle route 68 or the disused railway lines converted for bikes and walkers; the High Peak and Tissington Trails or the Monsal Trail.
